The original settlers of Plymouth Colony are known as the Pilgrim Fathers, or
simply as the Pilgrims. Some 100 people, many of them seeking religious freedom
in the New World, set sail from England on the Mayflower in September 1620. That
November, the ship landed on the shores of Cape Cod, in present-day
Massachusetts. A scouting party was sent out, and in late December the group
landed at Plymouth Harbor, where they would form the first permanent settlement
of Europeans in New England. Other ships brought additional groups of Pilgrims to

| Membership is limited to men and women eighteen years of age or older who are lineal descendants of any Pilgrim. For the purposes of this Society, the term Pilgrim shall denote any immigrant who settled before 1700 within the territory which began the forty-eight contiguous states of the United States of America without the regard to religion or place of origin. The ancestor need not have been connected to the Mayflower ship, but may also have entered the country at any port or by any means, prior to 1700. The Texas Branch NSSDP is a branch of the National Society which was incorporated on December 21, 1909, in Providence, Rhode Island. The Texas Branch was Founded in 1925. |
